Honda Offers Ultra Efficient Model in UK

What would you think if we told you there's a new Honda vehicle out there that can get up to 65 miles to the gallon? The model isn't available in the U.S. just yet, but we're still excited about its potential at University Honda.

The Honda Civic Diesel will be available across the pond sometime in 2013, branded as the 2013 Civic i-DTEC. The more diesel-friendly market in Europe would appear more conducive to success for the model, and U.S. Honda officials aren't exactly sure if consumers have adjusted to the idea of alternative fuel in our nation just yet.

With that in the mind, we can still hope this incredibly efficient auto makes its way to the good old U.S.A. before too long. It's built on a 1.6-liter diesel powertrain, harnesses the power of 118 horses, and gets 221 pound-feet of torque. UK standards would translate these specs into a 78.5 mpg rating, and 65 mpg under our standards.

This particular model marks an innovative pattern for the Honda brand. Honda officials from the UK elaborated, "An exciting new chapter in the history of Honda diesels has begun...this is the first engine to be launched in Europe under Honda's flagship Earth Dreams Technology environmental programme…"1
